Dolly Parton Rewrites 'Jolene' and Receives COVID-19 Vaccine

Country star and pop culture icon Dolly Parton recieved a dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine in Nashville, Tennessee last Tuesday.

Parton helped fund the development of the Moderna vaccine, donating $1,000,000 to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

In a video captured by BBC, Parton sang a special rewrite of hit song "Jolene," with new lyrics "vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, I'm begging of you, please don't hesitate."

The legendary singer shared that she had been "waiting a while" to receive the vaccine, and that "I'm old enough to get it and I'm smart enough to get it." She revealed to the Associated Press that she had decided to wait for the vaccines to become more widely accessibly because "I don't want it to look like I'm jumping the line".

The vaccine has become more easily available in the US, and Parton encourages others to get their COVID-19 vaccine when it is possible for them to do so.

In the immortal words of Dolly Parton herself, "to all of you cowards out there - don't be such a chicken squat. Get out there and get your shot."
