Serving as the first collaboration between the two artists, the song was first teased earlier this week with pictures of the artist's faces on tasty treats and the caption "SWEETEST PIE 3/11". Additionally, Dua shared a snippet of the track across social media pages.

The song gives listeners their first taste of summer, bursting with Lipa's eighties pop-inspired production style. Megan shines with her sexually-charged raps and sugary lyrics, such as "Wanna put his Nutty Butter in my Fudge Round".

In an interview with Apple Music, Megan stated, "I be seeing everybody making mash-ups of me and Dua songs and I'm like, 'No, this is too good. We have to make a song...but I got to find that right beat. It has to be perfect'".

Dua Lipa is currently embarking on the North American leg of her Future Nostalgia World Tour, with Megan Thee Stallion featuring as an opening act in three shows next week. "Sweetest Pie" seems to have dropped just in time for a possible live duet performance, and the collaboration serves as Megan's second this year, following "Lick", which features Caribbean artist Shenseea.

The music video for "Sweetest Pie" was directed by Dave Meyers, who is credited for his work with Ariana Grande, Camila Cabello and several other stars. The Hansel and Gretel-inspired video was conceptualized by Megan herself.
