Lil Nas X has released his new single, "SUN GOES DOWN," alongside an emotional music video.
Addressing his younger self, he sings: "I’d rather run away / Don’t wanna lie, I don’t want a life / Send me a gun / And I’ll see the sun.” The video gives a clearer video of Nas' message, featuring a cameo from his real-life father.
Wearing a white suit and appearing as godly as possible, current day-Lil Nas X looks through the windows of his life at everything he's done so far. Browsing through memories as if they were open internet tabs, he decides to visit a less confident version of himself who's sad and sulking while at Taco Bell. Current Lil Nas X monitors younger him from afar and watches as the latter gets a ride home from his father.
Other scenes show Lil Nas X attending prom by himself and comforting his younger self. According to a statement, the video shows a teen "who's struggling inside, hating himself and doesn't want to live anymore." Now, Lil Nas X hopes to be an inspiration for others.
"SUN GOES DOWN" is the second release from Lil Nas X's forthcoming debut studio album, set to come sometime during this summer, following the release of "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)" that came out in March.
