In Review: Dominic Fike's "Dancing in the Courthouse"

Dominic Fike returns after releasing a multitude of teasers for his newest project, which all paid homage to his hometown of Naples, Florida. In anticipation of his newest album, he released a single titled “Dancing in the Courthouse” on April 14th, 2023.


SOUND

Fike teamed up with renowned producer Kenny Beats to craft the captivating new single. The track opens with a gentle melody, perfectly complementing Dominic's smooth vocals. However, as the chorus approaches, the song intensifies, with Dominic's voice growing raspier and the instrumentation becoming more dynamic. The driving force behind the song comes from the powerful pop-rock drums, providing an energetic backdrop for Dominic's commanding vocals. To add further depth, Dominic blends in subtle background vocals, resulting in a fully-realized track. The song receives a commendable 7/10 on the Intersect Rating Scale, solidifying Dominic's evolving sound.


LYRICS

Fike brings positive and uplifting energy lyrically on this track. He is encouraging listeners to rely on love for fulfillment, singing, “We make the love that keeps our world spinnin’ ”. It is evident that he has grown a lot throughout his career, and this growth is reflected in his lyrics. He uses the metaphor of a courthouse to further his message, singing, “Make 'em dance for it in the courthouse, Make a stand for it, or it doesn't count”. He feels the need to stand up for his beliefs, arguing that one can better themselves by doing this. Dominic receives another 7/10 on the Intersect Rating Scale for his lyrics.

Dominic Fike has always been true to the story of his upbringing. He is not afraid to talk about his troubles dealing with drug addiction in his family, along with a plethora of deep-rooted, generational issues. It has taken him a long time to turn things around for his family, and he has been able to share this process with fans through his music. This track reflects the journey he had to take to overcome hardship. In the music video for the track, he features clips of his family members along with visuals that represent his home in Florida.
