Katy Perry's "Daisies" Is A Breath Of Fresh Air

Katy Perry, one of the 2010's favorite pop stars has had quite the journey with respect to her career. She was known for her eclectic style and fun spirit at the beginning of her career when she released hits like Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) but she went through quite the metamorphosis with regard to her music when she released Prism and eventually Witness. On May 15th, Perry released a single, Daisies, to preface her upcoming album, to be released on August 14th.

THE SOUND The song is in the spirit of "Roar" and "Firework", a song dedicated to Perry's resilience and perseverance when faced with adversity. It's got the same theme as her previous songs but this is undoubtedly a more raw and gimmick-free version of the singer. The mother-to-be is staying true to herself in providing uplifting anthems but she's catering to a more mature audience. Katy Perry has been all about being candid with her fans and communicating her story through her music and this has been her best effort at that. The sound earns an 8/10 from Intersect.

THE SINGING

Perry's always had such a beautiful singing voice. The rawness and rasp of her voice really make the single. Her emotion really shines through in this song and makes it so much better to listen to. The singing makes the song sound like a love song to herself and it brought a smile to my face the first time I listened. The singing earns an 8/10 from Intersect.

THE ART BEHIND THE SINGLE

The song has a beautiful message of being true to yourself but I worry that Perry's too repetitive. At what point do we say "I've heard it all before". I can't discount Katy Perry's struggle though, and a beautiful song came from her pain so I have to give the art behind Daisies a 9/10.
