In Review: Drake's "Search and Rescue"

The multi-award-winning artist, Drake, has stormed back into the limelight. Following the resounding success of his last album, "Her Loss," which dropped in November 2022, the chart-topping artist released a new single on April 7th, 2023, titled "Search and Rescue."

SOUND

This track has a looped beat consisting of a melodic piano and deep bass. Drake has a monotone style of singing and rapping that is enhanced by a slight use of autotune. This sound reflects the subject matter presented in the track. The beat builds up at the end with a change of the key in the piano, allowing listeners to remain engaged. Drake interestingly samples a voice recording of Kim Kardashian in conversation with her mother, Kris Jenner. This gains him a 7/10 for sound on the Intersect Rating Scale

LYRICS

ART BEHIND THE TRACK

There is much speculation among fans concerning the Kim Kardashian sample. Others say their conflict is settled, and Drake included the sample to further emphasize his feelings. In the recording, she says, "I didn't come this far just to come this far and not be happy". This statement could connect to his inner turmoil when reflecting on his fame. Regardless of the truth, Drake has satisfied many fans with this release and gets a 6/10 for his art.
