In Review: DJ Khaled's "Supposed to be Loved"

DJ Khaled gathered a superstar team, consisting of Lil Baby, Future, and Lil Uzi Vert to create a modern spin on Micheal Jackson’s classic hit "P.Y.T (Pretty Young Thing)".

SOUND

This song is a summertime jam, with DJ Khaled creatively sampling Micheal Jackson’s “P.Y.T (Pretty Young Thing)”. The sample is slowed and looped over upbeat percussion. Future sings smoothly over the beat, complemented by Lil Baby and Lil Uzi’s melodic rap styles. The song is meant to be fun, and it is sonically representative of a bright summer afternoon. The sample is used perfectly, creating variety by being brought in and out of the song at ideal times. The drums are the most developed part of the beat, as they are constantly syncopated throughout the track, leaving listeners on their toes. They earn an 8/10 on the Intersect Rating Scale for their sound.

LYRICS

This crew equally communicates their love for their partners on this track. Future starts by confessing, “ I been thinkin' highly of you, that's imperial”. In the chorus, he and Lil Baby sing, “I'm tryna love you like you 'posed to be loved.” Uzi adds onto the love fest, saying, “ Love you so much, got your name tattooed.” These three seem to be infatuated by their lovers, and are not afraid of expressing it. They earn a 6/10 on the Intersect Rating Scale for their lyrics.
