In Review: Offset and Cardi B's, "JEALOUSLY"

Offset and Cardi B have released their newest track together, titled “Jealousy,” allowing the couple to put the cheating rumors surrounding their relationship to rest.

Offset and Cardi B received assistance from producers and writers OZ, Jahaan Sweet, and Boi-1da to create the beat for this track. They skillfully sampled the introduction of Three 6 Mafia’s song, “Jealous Ass Bitch” throughout the track, over a hard-hitting trap beat. Their flows are fast, showcasing their raw talent, and they rap smoothly over the beat, appealing to listeners sonically. Therefore, they earn a 7/10 on the Intersect Rating Scale for their sound.

Offset starts strong lyrically, attacking any people who have said negative things regarding his family in the past. He wants to send a message to listeners by saying, “Jealousy, that shit gon' eat your heart out.” Cardi B skillfully follows him up, saying, “Girl, nobody listen to you 'less you talking 'bout me”, invalidating the words of people who hate on her. She also includes some wordplay here, saying, “I'm still in the bed, I live on her head, water, and gas included”. This line is referring to the common saying, “living in someone’s head rent-free,” further emphasizing that people are constantly worried about the drama surrounding Cardi B when she simply wants to be left alone. These two earn an 8/10 on the Intersect Rating Scale for their lyrics.

This couple had many appealing visuals to complement the release of this track. Offset did a hilarious video with Jamie Lee Curtis, recreating an old Rick James interview. Additionally, the two had a beautifully shot music video featuring all of Offset’s children, showcasing their strong family dynamic as a couple, warding off cynical commentators who have suggested otherwise. They earn another 8/10 for their art on the Intersect Rating Scale.

Overall, Offset and Cardi B earn a 7/10 on the Intersect Rating Scale.
