South London-based alt-pop auteur dexter in the newsagent has shared her new single, "Eighteen," out now with an accompanying music video. The track leans into the softness of an early 2000s pop ballad, pairing hushed vocals with a nostalgic yet contemporary edge. It’s the latest showcase of dexter’s DIY sensibilities, building on a growing catalog that has quickly cemented her as one of the UK’s most exciting new voices.
"Eighteen" follows a busy year for dexter, arriving after her singles "With u" and "Special" —the latter earning recognition as a New York Times Song of the Week—as well as her feature on Jim Legxacy’s black british music with “dexters phone call.” Her ability to balance intimacy and atmosphere has drawn comparisons to Frank Ocean and PinkPantheress, and with this latest release, she continues to push her sound forward while teasing more music still to come.
Listen to "Eighteen" now below.
