Fresh off the success of her hit single “BOYS,” which SZA praised as “fire as hell,” flowerovlove returns with “Breaking News,” a shimmering anthem perfect for lovestruck summer nights.
The euphoric track, produced by Duck Blackwell (known for work with Louis Tomlinson and Icona Pop) and co-written with her close friend Ines Dunn (who has collaborated with Maisie Peters and Astrid S), was born from flowerovlove’s need to express complicated emotions she didn’t want to discuss with the person causing them.
“I was feeling sad when I wrote it, actually,” explains flowerovlove. “I wanted to feel something lovey-dovey, so I wanted to manifest feelings through a song.”
The official video for “Breaking News” adds a charming visual narrative, where flowerovlove finds love at the library. After bonding over vinyl records, she and her new crush dance their way through the stacks, creating a whimsical and heartwarming scene.
Flowerovlove performed “Breaking News” live for the first time during her debut Glastonbury set last month. Nataal highlighted her performance, noting, “flowerovlove’s blend of soft pop told tales of unrequited crushes and ‘thinking about boys too much’. The young London artist sent us skipping with ‘hugs and kisses’ and heart hands all around.”
Following her run of UK festivals, flowerovlove is set to make her stateside debut this fall with headline shows at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn, NY on November 12 and The Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles on November 14. Tickets are available now.
Flowerovlove’s previous single, “BOYS,” was hailed as “a feel-good banger” by FLOOD Magazine, which described her as a quintessentially Gen Z artist. Wonderland Magazine added “BOYS” to its Wonderlist, praising its “soaring vocals, blissful beats, and a dazzling hook.” Notion magazine noted that “flowerovlove gets the vibes for hot girl summer pumping.”
Beyond her music, flowerovlove is making waves in the fashion world as well. She has walked in Paris Fashion Week and has been the face of brands such as Gucci and Maison Kitsuné. Her independently released debut EP, 2022’s A Mosh Pit In The Clouds, caught the attention of publications like i-D and Nylon, as well as BBC Radio 1, which named her Future Artist of the Month. Her first three Capitol singles, released in 2023 – “Coffee Shop,” “Next Best Exit,” and “a girl like me” – have amassed nearly 20 million combined global streams.
