It's been 10 years — yes, that long — since Rebecca Black dropper her iconic single "Friday." While the song may not have been appreciated in its own time, the world has come to terms with the song, including Black herself. To mark the 10th anniversary of "Friday," Black has returned with a new remix of the viral hit with an all star line-up that includes Dorian Electra, Big Freedia, 3OH!3, and 100 gecs' Dylan Brady.
Featuring a heavy bassline and chipmunk vocals, the hyperpop reimagining of "Friday" feels like the most 2021 take on the 2011 hit. The accompanying Weston Allen-directed music video is just a wild a take on the single's original music video, using the same iMovie sketchbook filter and featuring the OG convertible driving in front of a greenscreen.
This time around, however, Black wears a latex bodysuit, spiky jewelry, and an Ariana Grande-esque ponytail — showing not only how she's changed as a person but how she's reclaimed her art, which in its 2011 glory was mocked incessantly on the internet. A decade later, "Friday" is now a hit, and Black is getting the recognition she deserves.
