Universal Music Group's Def Jam has spread its wings and expanded to Nigeria South Africa.
On May 26, 2020, Universal Music Group announced Def Jam's expansion to Africa. This new division of the label will represent Nigeria and South Africa's best hip-hop and Afro-beat artists. The label will start off being based in Lagos and Johannesburg.
The current roster of artists includes many artists that already have deals with Universal Music Group. The list includes the following artists: Boity, Cassper Nyovest, Larry Gaaga, Nadia Nakai, Nasty C, Tshego, Tellaman, Ricky Tyler, and Vector.
Eventually, the label will sign artists from around the whole continent.
