On April 9, pop singer-songwriter AJ Mitchell released new single "STOP," which will appear on his upcoming album SKYVIEW (expected for a May release).
The album, which will be released via Epic Records, was co-written and produced by Mike Dean, Daniel Gleyzer, Michael Medrano, Sage Skolfield, and Sean Solymar, and will feature collaborations with Ava Max and Rich the Kid. Mitchell shared in an interview with The Brag Media that the title of the album comes from a drive-in movie theatre from his hometown: “That was a place that I went to every weekend. My parents went to it all the time as a kid, my grandparents went to it all the time when they were kids. It was a big staple piece in my hometown." He continues, "there wasn't a lot to do in my hometown, at all. The cool thing was to go and explore abandoned buildings, that was the really cool thing to do. When I think of my hometown I think of Skyview and for this album I kind of wanted to let the world know who I am and where I came from. I've never really talked about my childhood or shown people. But I think it's important that people know where I came from and who I am because if people just hear my music and they don't know who I am, then they might not get the music.”
"STOP" is the ultimate pop anthem, with an ultra-groovy bass line and bouncy, fresh lyrics and melodies. Mitchell's vocals descend chromatically as he repeats the tagline "I don't wanna, I don't wanna, I don't wanna, I don't wanna stop." The tune is catchy, capturing elements and the energy of modern disco pop. Fans of Charlie Puth and Dua Lipa will love AJ Mitchell.
