Press Play: Role Model Releases Sophomore Album "Kansas Anymore"

Today, Role Model unveiled his highly-anticipated sophomore album, Kansas Anymore, via Interscope Records. Unlike his acclaimed 2022 debut album, Rx, which centered around the theme of love, Kansas Anymore delves into homesickness, heartbreak, and the journey of self-redefinition amidst these emotions. The album, executive produced by Noah Conrad, is now available for purchase and streaming. Fans can also find signed vinyl, CDs, and new Kansas Anymore merchandise.

To mark the release, Role Model has shared the official video for “Scumbag,” a bittersweet song about a love that endures despite disappointments. Produced by Scott Harris, Jonah Shy, and Noah Conrad, the video was shot in Role Model’s hometown of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and directed by Will DeSena. The visual captures the essence of life in Maine, presenting a heartfelt homage to his roots.

Role Model will celebrate the album’s release with an intimate, sold-out show at The Troubadour in West Hollywood, CA, on July 23. Fans worldwide can join the celebration via a livestream starting at 8:30 PM PT. Additionally, Role Model will host in-store signings at Looney Tunes on Long Island (July 20) and Fingerprints in Long Beach, CA (July 24). This September, he will join Gracie Abrams as a special guest on her sold-out The Secret of Us tour, with more touring announcements expected soon.

Earlier this week, Role Model performed “Deeply Still In Love” on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. The song, a standout track from Kansas Anymore, has garnered over 11 million global streams and taken the internet by storm with more than 371 million views on TikTok. Euphoria. Magazine praised the track, calling it “a rollercoaster ride of love, loss, and longing that’ll have you swaying and singing along in no time.”

Kansas Anymore has received critical acclaim, with DIY awarding it four stars and commending its fun approach to themes of heartbreak and homesickness. Dork also gave the album four stars, noting its artful deviation from Rx and its embrace of folkish roots with breezy, sun-tinged melodies.

The album’s lead single, “Oh, Gemini,” was co-written with producer Ian Fitchuk (Kacey Musgraves). Reflecting on the song, Role Model shared, “I was writing a lot of songs about watching my relationship slowly fall apart and was bracing for that loss. I wanted to start slow and soft with ‘Oh, Gemini.’ There’s a lot more to this album that isn’t so dark and slow. It’s a summer album somehow.”

Another highlight, “Look At That Woman,” has entered the Spotify US Viral chart this week. Role Model describes it as a nostalgic song that looks back and regrets certain decisions, using it as a coping mechanism disguised as a breezy, seventies-pop jam.

At 27, Role Model has come a long way since his string of independent singles in 2017, receiving co-signs from Benny Blanco and the late Mac Miller. His previous works, including the oh, how perfect and our little angel EPs, have earned him significant attention. His 2021 single “forever&more” garnered 60 million Spotify streams and led to a massive world tour. His debut album, Rx, received acclaim from major outlets and solidified his place in the music industry.
