Karri & Kehlani Take Us To The Bay With "Go"

With his new single “Go”, 22-year-old Bay Area artist Karri bridges eras by reworking one of the region’s most defining anthems: E-40’s “Tell Me When to Go.” The record, featuring Kehlani, flips the hyphy classic into a sleek R&B moment that honors the past while pushing the Bay’s sound forward.

“It means a lot to me. For Kehlani and me to do that song justice, and to get the recognition and love from 40 and Keak by clearing it, that’s a blessing,” Karri says. “It’s going to mean a lot to the Bay too, so I’m really excited.”

Nostalgia is woven into the record’s DNA, carrying the same upbeat, communal energy that made the original an anthem. “I always want to bring light to the Bay. Whether it’s flipping a classic or just showing people where I’m from, that’s important to me,” he explains. “The nostalgic part is cool too — growing up, all my cousins, uncles, my whole family loved that song. So for me to flip it into something new for the Bay, that’s dope.”

Kehlani’s feature added a special touch to the track. “Kehlani’s like my big sister. I text her songs all the time just to listen, and when I sent her ‘Go’ right after I made it, she texted me back right away like, ‘Yo, I’m getting on this.’ I really appreciate her for that — I’m super thankful and excited for people to hear it.”

Beyond “Go,” Karri is intent on expanding what Bay Area music can sound like. “I was inspired by HBK gang, Kehlani, Larry, and of course the OGs like Mac Dre and 40. For this generation, I want to lead the charge by showing a new side of the Bay. The music doesn’t always have to be hard — it can be R&B too, some cool shit that really speaks to people.”

That perspective carries into his upcoming project, Late Night Slider Music 2, a sequel to last year’s debut EP. “Same vibes as the first Late Night Slider, but elevated. The features are fire, and I’m excited about all this new music coming out. This is just the beginning, and I can’t wait for people to hear it.”

Even as his profile rises, Karri stays centered: “It’s easy for me to stay grounded because I know my team and I aren’t where we want to be yet. Just grinding, being in the studio, trusting in God, and staying close to my family keeps me focused.”

His mission with “Go” and beyond is simple. “I just want people to know I’m here to stay. All this new music we’re about to put out is going to be insane. We’re here to stay, and we’re about to go crazy.”
